李倬者福建人，乾隆庚午贡生，赴京乡试，路过议征。
Li Zhuo, from Fujian province, was a candidate for the imperial Examination during the 15th year of the Qianlong reign. He went to the capital to take the provincial examination and passed though Yizheng.
出所作制艺，亦颇清雅，惟篇幅稍短耳
Then Wang took out some self-made writings. They were elegant but the length a little short.
李疑而憎之，王似解意，谢曰
Li began to doubt and get some dislike on him and Wang seemed to understand his thoughts. He apologized and said
某染膈症，致有此累，亲毋相恶。
: I have a diaphragm illness, which caused me a lot of trouble. Please don’t hate me.
王长鬼请曰:公毋畏，我非人也，乃河南洛阳生员
Wang knelt for a very long time and asked: Please don’t be scared, I am not a human being. I was a student from Luoyang in Henan
当拔贡，为督学某受赃黜落，愤激而亡。
So I was about to be chosen as a government student. The educational supervisor accepted bribes and dismissed me. I was so outraged that I died.
今将报仇于京师，非公不能带往。
Now I want to get my revenge in the capital and no one else but you can bring me there.

公党师拒我，我行且祟公
If you take side with your teacher and reject me then I will go through on my own and afterwards I will haunt you
舍馆定，即往谒座主，其家方环泣，声达户外
After they settled down, Li wanted to pay a visit to his teacher. There was his family surrounding the house, weeping and the sound could be heard all the way outside the house
于是举家跪李前，求为关说。
Thereupon the while family kneeled in front of Li, begging him to speak in the young man’s favour.
君过矣！君以被黜之故，气忿身死，毕竟非吾师杀君也。
You’re wrong! Because you have been dismissed you died of anger. After all it was not my teacher who killed you.
今若杀其郎君，绝其皿食，殊非以直报怨之道
If you kill his son now and let my teacher without children it’s not the right way to avenge yourself
其子语塞，瞋目曰
The son was speechless, starred angrily at him and then said:
公语城是，然汝师当日得赃三千，岂能安享？
However your teacher accepted that day bribes of 3.000 coins. How can he undisturbed enjoy this?
