osteoporosis
A
DEXA , or quantitative CT measure bone density. NO LABS for dx.

Pagets dis (osteitis deformans)
A
o Radiographic findings.
o Enlarged bone w thick, coarsened cortices and cancellous bone.
o Active dz: wedge shaped lytic leading edge progressing along the bone 1cm/yr.
o ↑ serum ALK phos.
o Normal calcium, phosphorous.

pyogenic osteomyelitis
A
o Lytic bone lesion surrounded by sclerosis on radiograph.
o Some untreated cases may have (+) blood culture.
o Pathogen ID requires biopsy & bone cultures.
