What is ischemic stroke?
A
When an artery to the brain is blocked, brain won’t get enough oxengenated blood. The most common problem is narrowing of the arteries in the neck or head. Most often caused by atherosclerosis (thrombosis, emboli), systemic hypoperfusion or gradual cholesterol deposition.

Symptoms
A
Abrupt onset of hemiparesis, monoparesis, or quadriparesis
Monocular or binocular visual loss, visual field deficits, diplopia
Facial droop
Ataxia
Vertigo
Nystagmus
Aphasia
UMN lesion signs; initially flaccid paralysis

Diagnosis
A
CT/MRI; dark colour Blood test, CBC: Abnor. erythrocytes, leukocytes & coagulation NIHSS (scale) FAST (face, arms, speech, time) (Heart: ECG)
