Main types of tumors
Malignant or cancerous tumors and benign tumors. Cancerous tumors:
=> Primary tumors and secondary tumors
Gliomas
Malignant; glial cells, begin in the brain or spinal cord.
Meningiomas
Arises from the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord (meninges). Mostly noncancerous.
Acoustic neuromas (schwannomas)
Benign; develop on the nerves that control balance and hearing leading from the inner ear to the brain.
Pituitary adenomas
Mostly benign; develop in the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. Affect the pituitary hormones w/effects throughout the body.
Medulloblastomas
Most common cancerous in children. Arise in lower back part of the brain and tends to spread through the spinal fluid. Less common in adults.
Symptoms
Headaches, seizures, problem w/vision, vomiting, and mental changes. The headache => Worst in the morning and goes away w/vomiting.
