single user operating systems
single user operating systems are found on most desktop computers, only one person will use the device
single proccessor operating systems
only have one processor which is shared between users by dividing the CPU time into time slices and allocating each one of these to each user in turn
multi user operating systems
allows more than one user to access the processor simultaneously
multi processor operating systems
have more than one processor
users still have to share processors and its is a more complicated system but performance is improved
user interface
a folder and file system is displayed and manipulated allowing for copying and searching sorting and deleting data
icons for shortcuts
multiple windows can be opened at the same time
interface can be customised
