Refracted
When light rays pass from one medium to another, their speed changes, and rays are bent
Emmetropic
A normal eye that is able accommodate properly
Astigmatism
Irregularities in the curvatures of the lens and/or the cornea lead to a blurred vision problem
Presbyopia
When the elasticity of the lens decreases dramatically with age resulting in difficulty in focusing for bear or close vision, especially when reading
Visual acuity
The sharpness of vision. 20/20 (you are the top number and the average “normal” person is the bottom) 20/15 or 20/80
Testing for color blindness
Ishihara’s color plates are designed to test for deficiencies in color photoreceptors cells-the cones.
Depth perception
The ability to see in three dimensional vision
Convergence
The extrinsic muscles (which are the recurs and the oblique muscles) make it possible to to keep moving objects focused on the fovea centralis. They are responsible for the convergence (the movement of the eye to allow near vision)
