2.3 (Frequencies - 2.4GHz & 5 GHz) Flashcards
What does a 2.4 GHz frequency do?
Slower and longer.
A 2.4 GHz connection travels farther at lower speeds.
The 2.4GHz band uses longer waves, which makes it better suited for longer ranges or transmission through walls and other solid objects.
2.4 GHz band will support speeds between 450 Mbps and 600 Mbps.
What does a 5 GHz frequency do?
Faster and shorter.
The higher frequency 5 GHz band makes up for its shorter range with much faster WiFi speeds than the 2.4 GHz band.
5 GHz will support speeds of up to 1300 Mbps.
What are the 5GHz frequencies in the UK?
The 5GHz spectrum in the UK runs from 5150MHz (5.15GHz) to 5850MHz (5.85GHz). This is then broken down into 3 different bands (Band A, B and C).
Each band has its own maximum allowed effective radiated power output and specific rules as to where it can be used and whether a license is required to operate within it.
What are the 2.4GHz frequencies in the UK?
Wireless Standard for this band is shown as 802.11 b / g / n / ac. The spectrum operating frequency range is 2412 – 2484MHz. The OFCOM /ETSI standard for UK Operating channels are between Channel 1 - 13.
What power can 2.4 and 5 GHz put out?
To minimize power consumption their radios typically max at 15mW (12dBm), while access points max at 100mW (20dBm) on 2.4GHz and 200mW (23dBm) on 5GHz.
