Define what leadership is
The practice of motivating and influencing others to high job performance

What is a autocratic leader
A leader who makes all of the decision, sets objectives and remains distant except when explaining or demonstrating
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a autocratic leadership style
Ad:
- good control
- people know what to expect
- enables fast decision making
Dis:
- group become too dependent oh leader resulting the need for high levels of supervision and increasing costs
- employees feel under-valued which results in poor levels of motivation
(which means poor-productivity) - fear of punishment can lead To poor performance
What is a paternalistic leader
Autocratic though decisions are intended to be in the interest of the workforce. Leader is likely to explain the reasons for their decisions and may even consult with staff before making them
( deciding what’s best for the children )
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a paternalistic leadership style

- people know what to expect
- Enables fast decision making
- can increase motivation as employees social needs are cared for
Dis:
- group become too dependent on leader resulting in high level supervision and increasing costs
- people feel frustrated because they have no participation in decisions
- they feel under valued which results in poor motivation
What is a democratic leader

A leader making decisions restrained by paperwork and excessive checking, leader “manages by the book”

- Employees know exactly what their tasks are
- tasks are formed quicker and efficiently

- Restricts creativity and free thinking
- discourages innovation

What is a laissez-hair leader
A leader who lets employees carry out activities freely within broad limits
