225- prostate histo Flashcards
histology of BPH
2 cell layers thick in the glands (as opposed to CA which has no basal layer)
what is the main type of prostate cancer? what drives it? what race? precursor lesions?
adenocarcinoma. Androgen dependent. African Americans.
Prostatic Intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN): retains basal layer (cancer loses basal layer and invades)
histo changes in cancer
presence of acinar nucleoli, smaller glands, absence of basal cells, greater N:C ratio
staining of high grade PIN vs cancer
HGPIN has more racemase and less p63?
what is gleason grading based on
based on architecture pattern, ignores cytologic features. You add the two (1-5) scores from each pattern and get a sum score from 2-10
