2.1.3 Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Active Transport
A
Allows cells to move substances from an area of low concentration to area of high concentration
2
Q
Energy?
A
As particles are moving against concentration gradient, energy must be transferred from energy store
-ATP is required from respiration
3
Q
Rate of active transport
A
- Depends on rate of respiration (required to produce needed ATP)
- Cells that carry out need many mitochondria so they can respire rapidly + produce lots of ATP
4
Q
Carrier proteins
A
Special proteins that span the width of cell membrane. A molecule cell needs, binds to carrier protein, energy is transferred from an energy source to the protein so it can rotate or change shape + transport molecule into cell
