- any complaint of sexual assault or sexual harassment of a prisoner while prisoner is in custody of this department- notify CJB of details via email
UMOS notifies and refers the case to detective squad when further investigation is required for the following:
- any offense and victim suffers a serious physical injury including assault
- robbery where a firearm or dangerous instrument is used
- robbery and victim is a senior citizen (60 and up)
- burglary and person present or property valued over 5000 (10k in manhattan) is taken or firearm or safe involved
- crime was committed with unique/unusual modus operandi
- victim of same or similar crime within last 6 months
- perp may be identified or known
- similar crimes have been committed in the vicinity
- complainant or offense committed may create unusual community or police interest
- impersonation of PO or other LE officer (notify IAB)
- identity theft (financial crimes task force will be responsible for identity theft related larcenies where loss is valued at 5000 or more, patterns involving more than one NYPD precinct, any case where their expertise, equipment and resources are most appropriate.)
UMOS notifies desk officer precinct of occurrence to ensure the response of Major Case Squad for

- recovered property not previously reported
- additional stolen property not previously reported
- serial numbers obtained for property previously reported
- dead human is identified
For biased motivated incidents, UMOS:

- Evaluate condition and take police action appropriate for stabilization of the area.
- determine if possibility exists of bias incident
- request patrol supervisor if bias incident is suspected.

- notify desk officer of incident
- request CO/Duty captain if possible bias incident
- direct complaint report be prepared.
If classified as a possible bias incident, the detective squad member conducting investigation will forward 61 and complaint revision to:

If classified as a possible bias incident, crime prevention officer will prepare and forward a report within ____ days of the incident indicating action taken and whether security survey was conducted.
