(2) The Reformation by 1536 Flashcards
Anne+Catherine death
Anne executed in 1536 and Catherine died same year
This meant C marriage was officially ended in eyes of Christendom but Anne’s children were not as they were conceived during C marriage in their eyes so illegitimate
Anne had several failed pregnancies and had Elizabeth (girl) this made H change his mind - Cromwell was in charge of her downfall (ironically had helped her rise)
Parliaments Role
Before 1529 most Parliamentary acts were granted by the King in exchange for tax grant
Afterwards acts were introduced on behalf of the King by minister like Cromwell
Statute Laws were ones approved by Parliament and given royal consent became accepted as having greatest force of law
Second succession act for Jane Seymour’s children made Eliz+Mary illegitimate
1536 Injuctions
One of the injunctions required all parishes to have a English Bible (poor enforcement meant many didn’t)
Valor Ecclesiasticus
It was a full audit of the property of the Church
As early as 1534 we see evidence that Henry looked into using church money for his own devices
