2/6/17 Flashcards
What tissues are derived from the Neural Crest?
Melanocytes Odontoblasts Tracheal cartilage Endochromaffin cells Laryngeal Cartilage Parafollicular cells Adrenal Medulla Schawnn Cells Spinal membrane (MOTEL PASS)
HSV Encephalitis pathophys and symptoms
Pathophys: HSV1 oropharynx infection travelling to temporal lobes via olfactory or trigeminal
symptoms: Acute-onset fever, headache, seizure, aphasia, mental status changes, behavioral changes
PCP’s MOA
NMDA receptor antagonist
Kartagener Syndrome
Primary ciliary dysknesia leading to chronic respiratory infection, deafness, infertility and dextrocardia
Increased CO and Mean systemic pressure, Decreased Total peripheral resistance. Most likely cause?
Chronic AV fistula
Signs of Digoxin toxicity
Cardiac: life threatening arrhythmias
GI: Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain
Neuro: fatigue/weakness, confusion, color visual changes
Macular lesions cause
central vision impairment and scotomata (partial vision loss with otherwise normal field)
Drug induced lupus: labs and causes
Labs: + Anti-histone, possible + ANA
Causes: procainamide, hydralazine, isoniazid, minocycline, TNF inhibitors
RAS normally binds to
GDP/GTP
Thymic Cancers can cause
Pure Red Cell Aplasia
What does Kinesin do
ATP dependent vesicle/organelle intracellular transport
Hawthorne Effect
Observer Effect: behavioral changes due to knowledge of being watched
Phenytoin MOA
Deceases Na+ channels in cortex thus slowing firing rate
Diabetic Blindness pathoyphys
Unregulated glucose uptake leads to Glu -> Sorbitol conversion. Causes Oxidative (NADPH depletion) and osmotic (sorbitol) damage
MEN 2 Cancers
Meduallry Thyroid (increase in calcitonin) , Pheochromocytoma, Parathyroid Hyperplasia
