Age of gender understanding
3-4y/o develop understanding, opposite gender exploration is normal
Postpartum hemorrhage control
Bilateral ligation of internal iliac (also saves future fertility)
Fungal meningioencephalitis: Lab and treatment
India Stain: large pink circles in CSF
Treatment: Amphotercin B
Congenital Toxoplasmosis: Presentation and transmission
Classic triad: hydrocephalus, intracranial calcification, chorioretinitis
Transplacental transmission
Blood supply of the stomach
Lesser curvature: Proximal - L. Gastric, Distal - R. Gastric
Greater curvature: Proximal - L. Gastroepiploic, Distal - R. Gastroepiploic
Proximal greater curvature above spleen: Short gastrics
Methemeoglobin O2 Effects
Po2 - unchanged
O2 Binding: Up
Dissociation curve: Left shifted
Learning disorders vs ADHD
Learning disorders are specific to key learning difficulties with abilities to focus in other areas
Somatic vs Conversion Disorder
Somatic: excessive anxiety with greater than 1 unexplained symptom
Conversion: neurologic symptoms that don’t correspond do specific neurologic disease. Often stress induced.
Benzo MOA
Allosteric GABA modulation that increases chloride channel opening
Migranes vs Menengitis
Migraines do not present with fever or lethargy
Myocardial Infarct damage: pathophys
loss of O2 leads to ATP depletion and ATP dependent pump dysfunction. Leads to increased cellular Na/Ca and mitochondrial Ca. Increases lead to increased swelling/water
Ezetimbe MOA
blocks NPC1L1 transporter, decreasing dietary cholesterol uptake
Lactose Intolerance: Stool effects
Increased pH due to loss of short chain fatty acid production
PostStrep Glomerular Nephritis: Histology
Hypercellular due to leuko infiltrate and endothelial/mesangial proliferation
Acute Viral Hepatitis: Histology
Cellular swelling and cytoplasmic emptying due to hepatocyte necrosis.
