1B - Describe the Project Life Cycle Flashcards
A group of related project activities that results in the completion of a major deliverable.
project phase
A process that defines the five phases that a project goes through from the beginning to the end.
project life cycle
A sequence of activities designed to bring about a specific result in response to a business need.
process
Activities that underlie the effective practice of project management; they include all the phases of initiating/pre-project setup, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing a project.
project management processes
The act of determining which processes are appropriate for any given project.
tailoring
The process of creating a mock-up of a product or an information system.
project prototyping
This prototyping model enables you to check some aspects of the product design without considering the visual appearance, the materials to be used, or the manufacturing process.
proof-of-principle
This prototyping model enables you to check the primary size and appearance of a product without simulating its exact function or design.
form study
This prototyping model enables you to check the design and imitate the appearance, color, and surface textures of the product, but will not contain the functions of the final product.
visual
This prototyping model enables you to check the appearance, materials, and functionality of the expected design.
functional
A group of related project activities that results in the completion of a major deliverable.
project stage
A comprehensive methodology to control a project and ensure its success.
project governance
A checkpoint review of project deliverables and performance at the end of each phase or subphase of a project at which point a management review or sign-off may be required.
phase-gate review (governance-gate review)
Used in software development projects, this special type of phase gate is a formal way of specifying and recording the transition between stages in the project life cycle.
quality gates
A process of development in which additional layers of detail are defined over the course of a project.
