Kennedy’s Presidency
- “New Frontier”- give federal money to education, healthcare, etc but most are blocked by Congress
- Peace Corps- Americans go to underdeveloped countries to help out

1961- Economic development for Latin America, but results are limited
Bay of Pigs Invasion
- CIA plans to train Cuban exiles to overthrow Castro
- Complete failure because no uprising occurs
- Causes Cuba and the Soviet Union to move closer together
Berlin Wall
Built by the Soviets to keep East Germans from going to democratic West Germany.
Cuban Missile Crisis (1962)
- Soviet Union is storing nuclear weapons in Cuba, so JFK orders a naval blockade
- Very close to nuclear war
- Soviet Union promises to remove the weapons if the US promises not to invade Cuba and remove missiles from Turkey
- Hotline between DC and Moscow to relax tension
