1.9-1.11 Flashcards
control group?
A group with a known outcome/a group that has no changes happen to it over the course of the experiment
experimental group?
a group where one singular aspect of the experiment (the x-value, independent variable) is changed to prove/disprove the hypothesis
standardized variables
(or controls) are variables that could potentially skew the results of an experiment if not kept constant.
experimental variable
optimally there is only one): It is what changes in the experimental group over the course of an experiment, to see how it changes the outcome.
goals of science?
Understand natural phenomena, Discoveries
goals of technology?
Apply scientific knowledge for some specific purpose, Invention/Innovation
what do science and technology have in common?
science and technology are interdependent! And they both can have a plethora of results, good and terrible.
artificial selection
humans have been modifying species for millenia, bear little resemblance to crops of origin.
biotechnology
ex. transfer genes between plants to help. Drought tolerance.
Habitat loss/climate change
is humans affecting evolution unintentionally. Getting rid of species.
how have humans unintentionally affected evolution
antibiotic resistance
How can a human understanding of evolution help them better their technologies?
develop strategies for conservation efforts, be smart when using antibiotics. Create vaccines all by tracking evolution. Identify shared genes.
