Liberal went to conservative due to Gladstone Irish home rule. Host colonial conference where pushed for imperial preference and failed (1897 and 1905). Caused party split in 1906 and make conservatives lose the election
Cecil Rhodes
Prime minister of Cape colony 1890. Wanted a North to South Africa Br. Railway from Cairo to Cape Town. Did Jameson raid due to wanting Uitlanders rights in Boer states due to gold discovery in the Transvaal. Failed so resigned
Viceroy Curzon
Appointed by Salisbury. Created North-West frontier 1901 as scared of Russian expansion. Appointed Gold Standard in India. Director of archaeology. Split Bengal 1905 which led to his resignation
Evelyn Baring
Consul-General of Egypt 1883-1907. He put Br officials in power. Forced to resign due to Denshawai incident in 1906
Alfred Milner
Administrator in Egypt (1889-92). Became Br high commissioner for SA from 1897. Remembered for bringing Br to 2nd Boer War. Negotiated Peace of Vereening. 1906 new liberal government rejected his plan for Transvaal. Resigned his post in SA
