Reasons farmers and ranchers were upset with the railroads
Railroad companies got rid of competition and had monopolies. They could then charge higher rates to ship goods. The federal government had a laissez-faire approach to business at this time and few to no regulations.
“Black Gold”
Nickname for oil that was used as a lubricant, kerosene, gasoline and to make other products. The first oil discovery in the U.S. was in Pennsylvania.
Negative impacts of industrialization
-More air, water and land pollution.
-More workers were hurt due to few safety devices on machines and few regulations.
-Some people lost jobs because machines replaced them.
