When does risk of AAA rupture increase?
When its 5.5cm or greater
AAA leakage presentation
Severe pain
Aortic dissection
Tear of the tunica intima -> false lumen in the aorta (can be seen on CT)
Presentation of aortic dissection
Atypical tearing CP, widened mediastinum, vital signs abnormal
Other name for acute colonic pseudo-obstruction
Ogilvie Syndrome
Upper limit of normal cecum size
9cm (greater is at risk of colonic perforation)
Monitoring acute colonic pseudo obstruction
Assess cecum size by radiograph every 12 hours
Conservative tx for acute colonic pseudo obstruction
NG and rectal tube placed to promote expulsion of colonic gas, stop any drugs that reduce intestinal motility, enema if large amount of stool present
Treatment for acute colonic pseudo obstruction if the cecum is greater than 12 cm dilation
Colonoscopic decompression or surgery
Meckel’s diverticulum rule of 2’s: 4 parts
- 2 ft from ileocecal valve
- 2% of population
- 2 inches long
- 2 types of ectopic tissue (gastric or pancreatic)
