What was the Vijayanagara Empire?
A kingdom located in Southern India started by Hindu-born two brothers sent to the area by the Muslim Delhi Sultanate to extend its control. Instead of acting on behalf of the Delhi Sultante, the two brothers started a Hindu kingdom that existed until the mid-1500s.
What were the Raijput kingdoms?
A group of Hindu kingdoms in Northern India lead by leaders of numerous clans who were often at war with each other.
What was the Delhi Sultanate?
An Islamic kingdom that began when Muslim forces conquered the city Delhi and most of Northern India. This kingdom struggled with poor organization due to strong local rulers. The Delhi Sultanate eventually lost power to the Mughals in 1526.
What was the Bhakti Movement?
A movement within Hinduism to bring emotion into spirtual life. This movemetn appealed to women and lower castes because it did not discriminate.
Srivijaya Empire
A Hindu sea-based empire that thrived on charging fees from ships travelling between India and China.
What was the Majapahit Kingdom?
A Buddhist sea-based empire that thrived on charging fees from ships travelling around Java in Indonesia.
What were the Sinhala Dynasties?
A Sri Lankan kingdom made up of Buddhist immigrants arriving from India.
What was the Khmer Empire?
A kingdom located in Southeast Asia on the Mekong River that built complex temples. When they became Buddhist in around the 12th century, they added Buddhist artwork to their temples and did not destory the old Hindu deities.
Sukhothai Kingdom
A kingdom from Thailand that forced out the Khmer and took over rule of the Mekong River.
Urdu
A language developed by Mulsims in South Asia.
Qutub Minar
An Islamic monument built during Delhi Sultanate standing in southern part of Dehli.
