Borderline Personality Disorder
A
- Border between neuroses and Psychoses
- Always seem to be in a state of crisis and frequent mood swings.
Common Behaviors
- Depression, Bipolar, Inability to be alone
- SPLITTING - Ego defense mechanism manifested by an inability to accept both positive and negative feelings.
- Self destructive behavior
- Impulsive
- At a hospital they may generate conflict among the staff because they have little empathy towards others and cannot accept positive and negative feelings
- They split staff and generate conflict.
Outcomes
- We do not want our patient to harm themselves due to self destructive behavior.

Antisocial Personality Disorder
A
- Exploits and manipulates others for personal gain
- Lacks remorse
- Low frustration tolerance
- Impulsive and reckless
- They are a risk for harming others.

General Interventions for Personality Disorders
A
- Allow clients as much independence as possible
- Encourage to discuss feelings
- Provide consistency in response to acting out behavior
- Discuss consequences that will follow certain behaviors
- Encourage client to keep a journal recording daily feedings
- Praise non-manipulative behavior
