Why is medical oxygen never used on aircraft?
Contains water droplets and freezes
Why is technical oxygen not used on aircraft’s ?
Contains contaminants not suitable for breathing

How many psi is stored in a high-pressure oxygen bottle ?
1850pi
Where are the oxygen bottles located for the flight crew ?
Avionics compartment or cargo compartment
Whats the function of a pressure regulator valve in an oxygen bottle ?
Drops pressure coming out of bottle from “1850psi” to “25psi”.
Whats the inference between continuous oxygen flow and demand oxygen flow ?
Continuous - oxygen always being supplied through mask at a constant flow
Demand - oxygen only goes through mask when you inhale. These types last longer
Why does the disc burst on the top of the cylinder when the pressure becomes to high ?
Prevents major damage to oxygen components
What happens if there is a discharge in oxygen from the cylinder ?
Green disc ruptures on aircraft skin which shows it has been discharged
What is a thermal compensator ?
Compensates the heat build up
What is placed on the plastic tube which carries the oxygen from the cylinder to the masks ?
Colour coded tape to identify its “ BREATHING OXYGEN “ and has to be placed at specific intervals
Where are the oxygen cylinders located for the cabin ?
Cargo compartment
What does the pressure regulator valve do ?
Controls amount of PSI is passed through mask
Where is the pressure indicator gauge found ?
Near the filler port
Where are the cabin masks found ?
PSU
( passenger service unit )
( there will be spare masks on every row of seat for infants )
How else can the cabin chemical oxygen be supplied other than cylinders ?
Oxygen generator
Whats the two ways oxygen is supplied to the system ?
Gas
Chemical
What does the gas oxygen system use to reduce thee oxygen to a useable level ?
FCU
What connects every passenger service unit ( PSU ) to the flow control units ( FCU ) ?
Ring line which transports pressure and releases the PSU doors to allow the mask to fall
How is the oxygen activated in the cabin once the masks are deployed ?
Activated when mask is pulled down towards passenger
How is the oxygen generated in a chemical oxygen system ?
By pulling lanyard it releases pin and fires a striker which triggers chemical reaction
When generator is used, can it be repaired ?
No. It has to be replaced
Whats the difference between a FCU and oxygen generator ?
FCU - used for gaseous oxygen to deploy masks and carry the oxygen to PSU.
Generator - used for chemical oxygen to deploy masks and form chemical reaction to deliver oxygen to PSU
What mask is used for cockpit crew ?
Demand
