11.17 Flashcards
Whats the 3 subsystems which use water and waste systems ?
Potable water system
Toilet system
Water waste system
What does the portable water systems provide to the galleys, lavatory’s ?
Drinkable water
Where is portable water stored ?
Under cabin floor, generally in cargo sidewalls
What does portable water use to transport the water from storage tanks to the galleys ?
Pressurisation
What pressurises portable water system ?
Electric pump
What prevents a reverse flow of water and air to the air supply when is pressure is lower than the tank pressure ?
Check valves
Where is the pressure relief valve in the portable water system ?
Between tank and pressure switch
If pneumatic system fails, what then drives the water and pressurises it ?
air compressor
What are shut-off valves used to do ?
Isolate sections of water system for maintenance
How does the pneumatic system change to air compressor in case of a failure to deliver portable water ?
Pressure switch which happens automatically
When should you completely drain the water system ?
Before disinfecting
When parking aircraft in cold weather
Every three days - adding fresh water preventing bacteria
Where is the water service panel or drain pane located ?
Lower part of fuselage and somewhere that doesn’t effect other areas needed during a after flight turnaround
Explain what happens when you overfill the water tank when re filling it ?
Overfill drain line takes the water and spills it overboard
How do you drain the water system ?
-Open shut-off valves and drain valves
-pull drain handle
Whats the components of a lavatory water system ?
Header
Manual shut-off valve
Heater
Mixer valve
Washbasin
What dos the header do in a lavatory system ?
Distributes water to its needs
What does the mixer valve do in a lavatory water system ?
Mixes warm and cold water
What does the drain mast remove ?
Wastewater
Whats the 2 ways that the flow of waste water is generated by ?
Gravity
Differential pressure between pressurised cabin and exhaust at the end of drain mast
Whats the type of wastewater called “grey water” ?
Collected in tank and emptied from the ground service panel when aircraft has landed
Whats the two types of toilet waste systems ?
Flush
Vacuum
Explain the operation of the flush toilet system ?
When flush handle is pressed it activates timer that controls flush motor which tuns a pump that sprays a flashing agent from the tank though a filter and into bowl
Explain the operation of a vacuum toilet system ?
Suctions waste from toilets and moves it to a waste holding tank
Where are the waste tanks located ?
Cargo compartment ( centre of aircraft )
What happens when the waste tank is full ?
Module shuts the system down and provides indications to flight deck and the cabin control panel
How is the waste tank cleaned ?
Attaching water pressure hose to the ground flush connection.
