Q

When is random sampling used?

A

Used when the area under study is very large and uniform.

A number of samples are taken from different positions within the habitat

Q

How do you know where to sample when using random sampling?

A

Place a numbered grid over area and use a random number generator.

Random walk - compass bearing and number of steps are both randomised.

Q

When is systemic sampling used?

and what does it involve?

A

Used when there is a change in species from one area of a habitat to another.

Lay a line (a transect) across an area and record species at regular intervals.
