What are the proper body mechanics for lifting?

A

Stand with feet separated for a wide base, with one foot in front of the other. Keep the weight close to yourself. Use knees and hips to bend, not the waist. Use leg muscles instead of back. Avoid twisting and bending sideways when holding weight.

A

Place the wheelchair parallel to the table with wheels locked and footrests out of the way. Keep the patient’s feet together. The lifter should face the patient and place their feet on either side of the patient’s feet.
