What are some of the pathological changes that occur in emphysema?

How do you manage a COPD patient?
Smoking cessation Educate the patient Pneumococcal vaccination Bronchodilators Inhaled corticosteroid Exercise Low dose O2 to prevent pulmonary hypertension
Potential surgery to remove large bullae, volume reduction or transplant
What is COPD?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
COPD is characterised by airflow obstruction, the airflow obstruction is usually progressive, not fully reversible and does not change markedly over several months. Usually caused by smoking.
