What does Ying Bing mean?
Big neck disease –> Goiter
What are the five categories of Ying Bing?
1) Qi Ying (qi)
2) Rou Ying (muscle)
3) Xue ying (blood)
4) Jing ying (tendon)
5) Shi Ying (stone)
Causes in TCM
Emotional stress –> Anger/worry –> Qi stagnation
Diet –> lack of nutrition –> weak SP –> dampness
Constitutional –> pregnant women –> combine with yin xu –> create heat –> phlegm –> empty heat
What are the common patterns?
1) LV qi stagnation with retention of phlegm
2) Hyperactivity of LV fire
3) Deficient fire
4) Qi and yin xu
Signs and symptoms?
- slow onset, mostly with females while younger or during pregnancy
- no symptoms at early stage
- enlargement of neck on one or both sides
- no tenderness, soft
- swallowing difficulty, cough and maybe LOV due to compression of vessels
Diagnosis?
Check for BBT being elevated, hyperactivity
Differentiation?
Rule out diabetes
Differentiation tips:
1) Softness or signs of the goitre
2) Excess or deficient
3) Fire/Heat signs

Qi ying - soft Rou ying - harder Shi ying - stone Xue ying - spider veins around it Jing yin - blue veins, congestion

Regulate qi
Transform phlegm
Disperse nodules
Heat fire treatment
Yangming and ashi points
Surrounding needle technique
Bigger = more needles
Up to 8 needles toward centre
Points for qi stagnation and retention of phlegm
LI4, LU7, ST36, ST40, RN12, RN17
Points for hyperactivity of LV fire
LV3/2, UB18, GB34, GB20, GB41
Points for deficient fire
HT7, UB15, 18
