Q

Why did solders develop lice, what disease could they cause, his did they attempt to prevent lice from spreading

A

The soldiers developed lice because they had to live close together, wearing the same clothes, for days on end and naturally lice spread in these conditions

Lice could cause a more serious disease, ‘trench fever’, its symptoms were similar to flu and typhoid and many soldiers suffered from its effects

They attempted to stop the lice from spreading by having bath houses set up behind the front line where men coming out of trenches could have a hot bath and a complete change of clothes
