- allows an active part in church by praying aloud or speaking without formal training.

- people receive forgiveness from god through the action of the priest.
- people receive the living presence of jesus in holy communion.
- worldwide set structure that is familiar to all, even visitors.
- ritual has been passed down through generations, creating a sense of tradition and making it the ‘right way’.
