baptism
the ritual through which people become members of the church and showing an acceptance of jesus.
baptism involves the use of water as a symbol of washing away the *(original) sin.

what happens?
rite of initiation; they are formally acknowledged as a child of god and receives god’s saving grace; the person’s sins are forgiven and they enter a new life with christ.
believers’ baptism (baptist + pentecostal church)
initiation into the church, by immersion in water, of adults old enough to understand the rite and have decided to live a christian life.
infant baptism (catholic + cofe)
sacrament of initiation of babies and young children into the church.
opinions on infant baptism:
- basis of christian life
- washes away original sin (VERY IMPORTANT)
- welcomed in church
- saved through faith in jesus (won’t perish but have eternal life).
- parents + godparents make promises on behalf of child
- sign of the cross = matthew 28 - baptised in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
