life after death Flashcards
the 4 last things (catholic christianity)
death, judgment, heaven and hell.
- will happen to all people at death.
immortality of the soul
even when the body ceases to function, the soul stays alive and exists in the afterlife. (resurrection)
corinthians 15
st paul uses a seed to describe how the ‘new’ resurrected life is different but continues with our earthly life.
the seed becomes a plant, and if we did not know any better we would think a seed doesn’t come from a plant.
particular judgment vs. final judgment
particular = faces a person immediately after they die.
final = everyone is judged at the end of time.
(some christians believe in 1 of these or both).
judgment
god will judge all and decide their eternal destination - this is not a simple ‘weighing up’ of good vs. bad.
- the judgment is on how a person responds to god’s offer of salvation.
physical ressurection
catholic and orthadox belief:
‘bodily resurrections’, we will rise in our bodies (in glorified states) like jesus.
spiritual ressurection
anglican belief:
soul is condemned to heaven/hell.
“it is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory” (1 corinthians 15:42-44)
