the incarnation & jesus as the ‘son of God’ Flashcards
incarnation (‘in the flesh’):
the christian belief that God took human form by becoming jesus.
fully divine & fully human.
immaculate conception
as jesus was the son of God, christians believe he could not have been conceived like a normal human.
as ‘his father’ was God rather than a human man, mary was a virgin when he was born.
salvation
healing the broken relationship between people and God.
why did the relationship between God and humans need repairing?
this relationship had been imperfect since adam and eve disobeyed God (the original sin).
through jesus’ incarnation, God began the process of salvation from sin, making it possible for humans to have a full relationship with him and go to heaven.
john highlights the human nature of jesus, emphasising that jesus was God in human form.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14).
