Baffin
6th largest island in the world, this island makes up the western part of Indonesia. It is dominated by jungles, and is home to a species of rhinoceros, orangatun, tiger, and elephant.
Sumatra
Large island in southeast Asia and is known for it’s beaches, biodiverse rainforest, and home to wildlife including orangutans and clouded leopards.
Borneo
With a population of 104 million, this island makes up the most populous part of Japan. It includes the cities Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima.
Honshu
World’s largest island located between the Arctic and Atlantic ocean. It is known for it’s vast tundra and large glaciers
Greenland
Island of the coast of East Africa and is a title for a movie. It is also know for it’s diverse amount of wildlife contaning 200,000 species of animals.
Madagascar
Island chain located on the equator to the west of South America, these islands are famous as the site of Charles Darwin’s popular book The Voyage of the Beagle in which he lays out the theory of natural selection.
Galapagos Islands
Located in the Atlantic Ocean and controlled by Portugal, these islands would be considered among the tallest mountains in the world if measured from the base of the ocean to the peak on Mount Pico.
Azores
Containing the northernmost point in Canada, Cape Columbia, this island is the 10th largest in the world.
Ellesmere
This island, located in the northern reaches of Canada, is named for a monarch of the United Kingdom and is home to the largest island in an island in the world.
Victoria
These islands, located off the coast of Morrocco, were used as a way-station for Spanish galleons on their way to the Americas. It is currently under control of the Spanish government.
Canary
This island chain is located of the southern coast of Argentina. It was the site of a short war between Britain and Argentina in 1982, which resulted in Britain maintaining its rule.
Faukland
Large island off the coast of Australia and is a famous scubba diving location because of the diverse amount of fish.
New Guinea
This island is home to England, Scotland, and Wales.
Great Britain
Most famous for its nearly 1,000 monumental statue heads, called moai, created by the early Rapa Nui people, this island is located off the coast of Chile.
