The second smallest unit of classification just above species but below family.
Genus
The system of classification for organisms on Planet Earth. A way to remember the classification system is Dear King Philip Came Over For Good Soup.
Taxonomic Order
Classified between order and genus. The official names are Latin in origin but many have common names.
Family
This classification fits in between class and family. Suffixes are used to group.
Order
Fits between phylum and order, this classification has some of the most familiar groups of organisms.
Class
Ranks above class and below kingdom. There are 40 groups but most animals fall into one of five.
Phylum
Second highest taxonomic rank, just below domain. Most countries use either 5 or 6 groups of these.
Kingdom
Organisms are classified into one of three of the highest taxonomic rank.
