Plant Processes Flashcards
Process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy that can later be released to fuel the organisms’ activities.
Photosynthesis
Set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate(ATP), and then release waste products.
Respiration
Process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts, such as leaves, stems and flowers.
Transpiration
Process by which an organism grows from a seed or similar structure.
Germination
A biological phenomenon, indicating growth or turning movement of a biological organism, in response to an environmental stimulus.
Tropisms
The developmental responses of plants to the relative lengths of light and dark periods.
Photoperiodism
A light-mediated development, where plant growth patterns respond to the light spectrum.
Photomorphogenesis
A natural, internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and repeats roughly every 24 hours.
