Long boats, they could sail in shallow water and invade inland

They adopted Christianity and they became farmers
What is Feudalism?
A political and economical system based on land holding and alliances
What was a lord?
A landowner who gave fiefs in exchange for services
What is a fief?
A plot of land
What is a vassal?
Someone who receives a fief and becomes a powerful landowner
What was the order of the Feudal Pyramid
Kings

Peasants
Who were knights?
Horsemen who defend their lord’s land in exchange for fiefs
What were the three groups in feudal society?
Those who fight: Nobles and Knights
Those who Pray: Monks, Nuns, Church Officials
Those who work: Peasants
How was somebody assigned a social class?
You inherited it from your parents at birth
What is a serf?
A servant lawfully bound to their place of birth
Where did a lord and his people live?
On the lords estate, in a manor
What was the system called on the manor and what did it entail?
The manor system, everybody worked for each other, manors were self sustaining
