Workshop 4 Flashcards
What does the host column focus on
the person at risk of injury - generally the victim e.g. the child in a driveway run over
What does the Agent/Vehicle column focus on
the energy (for example mechanical, thermal, electrical) that is transmitted to the host through a vehicle (inanimate object) or vector (person or other animal) e.g. driver of a car in a driveway runover
What orientations do interventions foucusing on the Host or Event often have
Educational orientation
Interventions focusing on inanitmate objects in the Agent column often have
Engineering orientation
What aspects to interventions in the environmental stage often have
Physical, Social and Health System
Physical aspects include
characteristics of the setting in which the injury event takes place e.g. street design
Social aspects include
legislation and attitudes towards enforcement
Health Systems include
availability of trauma and rehabilitation systems and can also relate to social attitudes and health, rehabilitation and disability support systems
3D Haddon Matrix Criteria
Effectiveness, Cost, Freedom, Equity, Stigmatisation, Preferences/Acceptability, Feasibility and Unforeseen adverse consequences
Effectiveness
Is there good evidence that the intervention is effective
Cost
What are the costs of implementing and/or enforcing the program or policy. May be also relevant to consider who bears this cost as there may be equity issues
Freedom
Extent to which the freedom of a particular group is compromised as a result of resistance to intervention
Equity
Horizontal equity refers to an intervention that treats all people equally or in a universal; Vertical equity refers to a strategy that results in unequal treatment of people based on unequal of risk of injury
Stigmatisation
concept that a program or policy should not stigmatise people wherever possible
Preferences
Acceptability of the proposed strategy to the affected community or indviduals - importance of perceptions involved and socio-cultural context, norms and values
