Module 4 Lecture 34 Flashcards
1
Q
Main contributor to Climate Change
A
CO2 (methane second) makes largest contribution but is not only climate-active pollutant
2
Q
How Climate Change affects health
A
- Direct effects
- Those mediated by natural systems
- Those resulting from social disruption
3
Q
Some consequences of Global Warming
A
- Place immense pressure on global food security
- Function of human physiology at work decreases
- Competitive sporting events is at risk
- Heavy work is not safe
4
Q
Climate science and health impacts
A
- High demand for energy and reliance on fossil fuels = global warming
- If we stay on same track +2 degrees by 2100 and +4 by next century
- Health is affected by direct exposures, ecosystem disturbances and social disruption
- Vulnerability is predictably patterned e.g. by location, poverty and health status
- Responding to climate change has risks but there are significant opportunities also
