Worksheet 57-Aircraft Workplace Safety Flashcards
What are the 2 main types of physical injuries attributed to electricity?
Electrical shock and physical burns are the main two causes of workplace deaths each year.
What is the cause of an electrical burn to the human body?
Electrical burns are caused by the flow of electricity with high enough amperes to cause enough heat to burn flesh and skin.
The severity of a shock to the human body depends on what 3 conditions?
The severity of an injury to a body depends on: path through the body, quantity of current (amperes), duration of the shock.
What is the most common shock related injury that occurs in the workplace?
Burns are the most common shock-related injuries because most injuries occur to extremities and are usually of a short duration.
What problem would develop if a circuit breaker is too large for the system?
The dangerous of having a low rated circuit breaker is that the wires will fail and burn before the maximum rated current is reached for the breaker.
What is the most frequently violated OSHA regulation that relates to wiring?
The most often cited OSHA violations in the workplace are improper grounding of electrical equipment.
How does GFCI sense a ground fault condition?
A GFCI uses the ratio of current coming out of a device with the current going to. This provides a fast indication of a fault because if a unit is malfunctioning, a large load will be used for the device and little to no load will return to the circuit.
With a GFCI installed in a circuit, what would be the most evident condition that a problem exists if no power is at the sockets?
If a GCFI continuously trips during operation, some of the load for the device is going someplace other than the circuit.
What should technician do in the cockpit to protect themselves from injury prior to working on an aircraft system away from the cockpit?
When working on an aircraft’s electrical system, the technician needs to tell others that they need power off to a certain system. This can be done by pulling the breakers and switches, and tagging and documenting that work is being done.
