Worksheet 55-Reading Aircraft Diagrams Flashcards

1
Q

What can a block diagram describe to the technician?

A

Block diagrams use named blocks connected by lines to show relationships between components in the drawing. This type of diagram shows the communication path between the blocks.

Q

Can a block diagram show more than just electrical inputs?

A

Block diagrams can display as many connections that are required to show electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic paths between blocks.

Q

Name a primary purpose of a flow chart used in aircraft maintenance manuals.

A

Flow charts are used where a set path is following to its conclusion where intermediate decision steps might be required. Flow charts can be equally useful for troubleshooting an aircraft system, or even tracking a part into a repair facility process.

Q

What is the main difference between a flow chart and a logic diagram?

A

Logic diagrams are similar to flow charts in that the reader would have a starting point and then based on inputs, send to an output. The main difference in flow charts is to keep a pass or fail, up or down output. But in a logic diagram, the output is determined by the circuitry.

Q

What is the primary purpose of a pictorial diagram?

A

Pictorial diagrams provide simplified schematic using drawings of the actual components in the diagram along with the electrical connections between them. System descriptions in a pilot’s operating handbook has many of these types of drawings.

Q

Are system schematics use for any other purpose than to describe electronic systems?

A

System schematics are very similar to electrical schematics except the flow of fluids or mechanical motion will be shown.

Q

Do electrical schematics show the same level of detail throughout the schematic?

A

Electrical schematics are consistent with the level of detail required by the system or component being shown. If it is shown as an aircraft radio system, the schematic will show the receiver transmitters as a block while a schematic of a radio will show the individual components inside the radio.

Q

In what section would you find the descriptions of the symbols in the wiring diagram manual?

A

Air Transport Wiring Diagrams have a chapter that will describe in detail the legend used in creating the schematics. This manual will describe the identification of plugs and receptacles, the method of wire identification, a description of how to locate the various components, color code options and to to use color codes.

Q

What are the primary power types that can be used for large transport aircraft?

A

Power source for GA aircraft are essentially 12V or 24V systems. Large aircraft have 24VDC, 28VAC, 115VAC at 400 Hz and 3 phase 208VAC 400Hz

Q

What is the aircraft electrical section called that is receiving power from the generators?

A

After generation, the power is fed into a common distribution bar or cable called a bus.

Q

When it comes to electrical conversion, what is the difference between a GA and an air transport category aircraft?

A

GA aircraft normally will use the power type supplied to all of the components in the aircraft. Air Transportation Aircraft will need to convert the voltage that is produced from generators into various voltages and AC/DC to match what is required from the End User subsystems.
