Worksheet 23-Rectification Flashcards
Define rectification.
Rectification is a process where the negative polarity of an input signal is electrically filtered out.
For an AC audio signal, why rectify the input?
If an audio signal is not rectified, the human ear would hear both the negative and positive peaks, which would cancel out the sound.
What type of rectifier uses a single diode?
A single diode is called a half-wave rectifier.
What type of rectifier is a bridge circuit?
A bridge rectifier is called a full-wave rectifier because the full wave conducts all of the time at the output.
Using the space below, draw a diagram of a bridge rectifier and identify the input and output signals.
A bridge rectifier has 4 diodes drawn in a square. All of the diodes need to “point” in one direction. The input is connected directly across from the output.
