working memory: research Flashcards
baddeley (dual processing)
procedure: Participants tracked point of light whilst doing either a visual or verbal task.
findings: Found it more difficult to do visual task at same time because it placed demand on the same component of the WM as the tracking
baddeley (duration PL)
procedure: Participants given brief visual presentation of words either single or multi syllable then asked to recall them.
findings: Showed word length effect where they could recall more single syllable words that can be said in a shorter time
bunge
procedure: Used FMRI scans to see most active part of brain when ps were doing 2 tasks (reading sentence and recalling last word)
findings: More brain activity during dual tasks indicating increased demand on memory
holmes
procedure: Targeted interventions such as breaking down tasks into smaller steps and using memory aids to help with learning difficulties
findings: These strategies lead to large gains in WM skills for those with dyslexia and ADHD
