What is the halo effect
occurs when a person assumes that a person has positive traits in terms of personality and other features because they have a pleasing appearance.

participants asked to rate photographs of three strangers for a number of different categories including personality traits such as overall happiness and career success.
the photographs which were rated the most physically attractive were also rated higher on the other positive traits.
What does the marching hypothesis suggest
Partners are similar in terms of physical attractiveness- it is important to evaluate your own attractiveness and from this, partners which are the most attainable.
What is the filter theory
When selecting a partner people will use three filters to “narrow down” the choice to those who they have the best chance of a sustainable relationship with.

Social demography (e.g. age, class, location) makes people more likely to meet
Similarity in attitudes- shared beliefs and attitudes- the best predictor of a relationship becoming stable
Complimentary of needs- partners have needs the other lacks
