Q

what does each collision of gas particles in a container result in?

Q

what happens when we compress a piston?

A

as a piston for example in a bicycle pump moves forward it collides with the particles transferring energy to them.
mean that gas’s temperature has increased.
as energy has been transferred work has been done.
we have to push against a force when we compress a gas so work must be done.

Q

how does a piston work in an engine?

A

internal combustion engine expanding gas is used to work.
mixture of vapourised fuel and air is ignited by a spark.
as gas explodes the temperature increases and the pressure increases.
exerts a force on the piston pushing it outwards.
piston does work to push car forward.
