newton's second law. Flashcards
what does this second law tell us about acceleration of an object and the resultant force?
acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on it and is inversely proportional to the mass of an object.
what does this mean: acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on it?
the larger the force the larger the acceleration and the larger the mass the smaller the acceleration for a given resultant force.
what is the equation associated with this?
force= mass × acceleration.
F= ma.
acceleration and force: on a graph labelled acceleration and force what does a straight line through the origin show?
acceleration is directly proportional to the resultant force.
acceleration and mass: on a graph labelled acceleration and mass what does a straight line not going through the origin show and what is the associated formula?
acceleration is directly proportional to 1/mass.
a= constant/mass.
what is a common problem with using a stop clock for getting accurate times, what is the name for the error and how can we help minimise the impact?
reaction time is a source of error.
random error.
calculate an average.
