electric fields. Flashcards
what does a charged object create and where?
an electric field around itself.
the electric field around an object can be thought as what and give an example?
the area around a charged object that will affect other objects.
magnetic field.
what does the strength of an electric field depend on?
distance from the object- the further way the object the weaker he field.
amount of charge- the higher the charge, the stronger the field.
what will happen if a second object is placed in the field?
will experience a force.
what happens to the force as the objects get closer?
stronger.
what diagram do you use for explaining electrostatic forces?
field diagram.
(FD- my abbreviation, don’t use in exams.)
what do close together line on a FD mean?
strong field. force exerted on another object is stronger and the greater the chance a spark will occur.
what do the direction of the arrows indicate on a FD?
direction that a positive charge will move in if placed in the field and explains why like charges repeal and unlike charges attract.
