Work Flashcards
What is required for work to be done?
Motion
What is work?
A force acting through a distance.
Is carrying something doing work?
No way bro
What is the formula for work?
W=FD or Work=ForcexDistance
What is the SI Unit for force?
Newtons
What is the SI unit for distance?
Meters
What is the SI unit for work?
Joules
What is a joule equal to?
1 N/m
What is power?
The rate at which work is done.
What is the SI Unit for power?
Watts
What is the SI unit for time?
Seconds
What is a horsepower equal to?
746 watts
What are machines used for?
Makes work easier by changing the size of a force, the direction or the distance in which the force acts.
What is Input force
The force you exert on a machine to make it preform.
What is input distance?
The distance the input force acts.
What is the work input?
The forcexinput distance
What is the output force?
The force exerted by the machine.
What is the output distance?
The distance the output force acts.
What is work output?
Output force x output distance.
What is output work always less than?
The input work because of friction.
What is the formula for actual mechanical advantage?
Output force/input force
What is the formula for
Input distance/output distance
What is the ideal mechanical advantage of a lever?
Inout distance/output distance
What is the formula for Mechanical Efficiency?
Work output/work input * 100
What is a lever?
A rigid bar that rotates around a fixed point called a fulcrum.
What does a lever have both of?
An effort force and a load (resistance force)
What is a first call lever?
When the fulcrum is between the input and output force.
What is a second class lever?
The output force is located between the inout force and the fulcrum. Ex. Wheel barrow, bottle opener, crowbar.
What is a third class lever?
The input force is between the fulcrum and the output force. Gx: hockey stick, golf club, broom.
What is the actual mechanical advantage?
The number of times the machine increases an input force.
What will the actual mechanical advantage AMA always be less than?
The IMA or Ideal mechanical advantage.
What is the mechanical efficiency?
The percentage of work input that becomes work output.
