Liu Wei Di Huang Wan - Six Ingredient Pill w Rehmanniea is very balanced. What is the herb break down and why is it effective?

Three nourishing: Shu Di Huang, Shan Zhu Yu, Shan Yao
Three moving: Ze Xie, Mu Dan Pi, Fu Ling
This formula is slightly more moving than nourishing - but you need the lifting moving herbs so the nourishing herbs don’t stagnate. Leaching herbs (Ze Xie, Fu Ling) not usually used for Yin Def, but Ze Xie is lifting as well as draining, so less damaging.
Shu Di Huang, Ze Xie enter KD
Shan Zhu Yu, mu Dan Pi enter LV
Shan Yao, Fu Ling enter SP
So this formula addresses to nourishing of Yin in pre-heaven and post-heaven aspects.
