the ability of humans to effectively exercise power and stimulate changes in society culture
Othering
the processes by which dominant groups in society deem subordinate groups fundamentally different and undeserving of equal rights
Durkenheimian model of criminality
there is a place for crime in thew world, it is integral to the social fabric
Innovators
those who accept the culturally sanctioned goals in society, but resort to illegitimate means to achieve them- e.g college admissions scandal
Meritocracy
the idea that work ethic and talent lead to achievement in education, which in turn leads to successful labour market outcomes, and is unaffected by various social advantages and disadvantages
Anomie
the sense that one is split from society
Moral panic
when society reacts disproportionately to a social phenomenon, which becomes indicative of larger social problems and a decaying of society at large
Neoliberalism
a state of society that frees the market from governmental regulations, turns economies towards finance capital and dissolves welfare provisions
